It’s come around already, and on Thursday night it is Week 1 of the 2016 Betway Premier League Darts, as the marathon road show kicks off at the First Direct Arena in Leeds.
Week 1 – Feb 4th – First Direct Arena, Leeds
- Peter Wright V Michael Smith
- Michael van Gerwen V James Wade
- Phil Taylor V Raymond van Barneveld
- Gary Anderson V Adrian Lewis
- Robert Thornton V Dave Chisnall
The stand out fixture that jumps straight out of that very competitive looking list, is Phil Taylor V Raymond van Barneveld. Taylor almost has a hold over Barny these days in the head to heads, but on recent form it is hard to call.
Barny somehow managed to knock world number MVG out of the World Championships back in December, while he lost 10-7 to Michael Smith last Saturday at the Unibet Masters.
Taylor managed to make it to the semi-finals of the same event, only losing in a last leg decider (11-10) to eventual winner, Michael van Gerwen.
Taylor goes into this week’s match as the favourite. He is a best price of 5/6 with 888Sport to win on Thursday. Barny is a best price of 13/5 with bet365 (£200 welcome bonus), while the draw is coming in at 4/1 with Boylesports.
Mentioning the draw, and don’t forget that the draw is an option in all of the Premier League darts matches group stages.
No major surprise to see that Michael van Gerwen is the overall favourite to win (what would only be his second) Premier League Darts title. MVG is currently a best price of 5/4 with Skybet to win the overall competition.
