After winning the toss and choosing to bat England might well have ended up a touch disappointed by the close of play. After getting off to a flying start with a 229 run opening partnership England lost their way a touch in the final session with the loss of three wickets. Andrew Strauss continued his excellent form as captain with another century while Alastair Cook supported him with 94 on a pitch that looks good to bat on.
West Indies fought back well in the final session of the day slowing the run rate down while taking three wickets and they so nearly picked up the vital wicket of Kevin Pietersen minutes before the close. The bookies have eased the Windies out to 16/1 at the close with the draw odds on favourite as it’s hard to see anyone taking 20 wickets on this pitch.
